LAST MINUTE MOVE TIPS
- Before you move, ask the current owner or landlord where the stopcock, thermostat, gas, electricity and water meters are. You might want to know what day the bins are collected. It’s a nice, helpful idea to leave a mini guide at your old property too for the new residents with key information on it.
- Re-direct your post to make sure you don’t miss anything important while you are still updating your address. Use Royal Mail’s postal redirection service to arrange this quickly and easily for as long as you need.
- Take meter readings for gas, electricity, and water at both your old and new properties. This will ensure you avoid paying for what you haven’t used. It will also help you if you’re going to set up new energy providers at your new home. You don’t need to stick with the same providers as the previous occupier. Shop around using a comparison site.
- Consider keeping an essentials box separate from the rest of your packing. Being able to make a cup of tea when you arrive will help you settle into your new home quickly without having to hunt for the kettle!
- It may be worth packing an overnight bag so you can shower and change without having to dig through bags and boxes on your first night.
